Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Saturday inspected the fire safety measures and equipment installed in coaching centres in Maitrivanam complex in Ameerpet and was disappointed with what he saw. He instructed officials to identify and inspect all coaching centres in the city for fire safety measures and submit a report of the same to him at the earliest.
The inspection was done following the blaze at a coaching centre in Surat that claimed the lives of 22 students, “There are many educational institutes in areas like Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar and Kukatpally. Majority of them are in crowded commercial complexes and are in flagrant violation of norms. In order to minimise the risk of untoward incidents, we have decided to inspect the fire safety measures in such institutes,” he said.
Mr Kishore asked all authorities to take down all flexis and hoardings which could fuel an accidental fire.
Mr Kishore has deployed the enforcement and disaster management wings to conduct the inspections and issue notices as per the norms. “We shall revoke the licences of all coaching agencies who fail to rectify their fire safety systems within the period prescribed by the GHMC following the inspection,” he said.
The civic body has also decided to take down all advertisement hoardings put up on high-rise buildings in all prime areas to eliminate the likelihood of untoward injuries/disasters to commuters.
