Coimbatore: Man stabs wife over social media posts, held
Coimbatore: A 35-year-old construction worker was arrested for stabbing his wife to death following a quarrel over the woman's habit of frequently uploading Tik-Tok videos on social media.
According to police, Kanagaraj, resided with wife Nandhini (28) in Madhukkarai-Arivozhi Nagar in the suburbs of the city.
His wife worked as an office assistant in a private engineering college in the same area. Following a quarrel with her husband, Nandhini left home a couple of years ago, and started living alone with her son and daughter.
Meanwhile on Friday, Kanagaraj had called his wife over phone, but the line allegedly remained engaged for a long time.
In a fit of rage, Kanagaraj consumed liquor and went to the college where Nandhini was working. He questioned Nandhini and scolded her for keeping her phone engaged for a long time.
This led to a heated quarrel between Kanagaraj and Nandhini, and the former attacked his wife with a knife which he had with him.
The college staff rushed Nandhini to a hospital, but she died on the way. On an alert, Madukkarai police retrieved the body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem. Kanagaraj was arrested late on Thursday night.
Kanagaraj admitted to his crime. He confessed to having stabbed Nandhini for frequently uploading videos on social media, despite his objection. He was also angry that Nandhini had refused to live with him, despite his pleadings. Investigations are on.
