Bengaluru: Not just peanuts! Congress kadle gets ‘Modi’fied
Bengaluru: The next time you buy peanuts, don't be surprised if you ask for "Congress kadle beeja" and are served "Modi masala" instead.
So popular is Prime Minister Narendra Modi today that some vendors in the city have announced that as of May 30, the day he took oath of office for the second time, the popular 'Congress kadle beeja' (Congress peanuts) will be called 'Modi Masala'.
Ask them why and they candidly admit it is a new dawn for Indian politics and they feel the need to change with the times. "Our forefathers had named the humble peanut after a hugely popular Congress, which hardly lost any elections for decades, but now it is Modi magic across the country," they tell you.
But what if the Congress bounces back in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls? Will they then drop the "Modi masala?" "Let's see, " they shrug in response.
Flattered by the peanut vendors' gesture, a BJP leader quipped, "It's not suprising. The Congress has been reduced to a peanut after all in the country's map!"
But if supporters of the "Lotus" party may relish "Modi masala," what about those still loyal to the 'Hand?" Won't they find it a hard pill (or if you like, peanut) to swallow? Only time will tell.
