1,500 houses built under Rebuild Kerala

In Ernakulam, 2,448 houses suffered more than 75 per cent damage which were categorised as fully damaged and are being reconstructed.

Kochi: Construction of more than 1,500 houses which were fully damaged in August floods has been completed in Ernakulam, one of the worst-hit districts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over keys of 1,001 houses during a function to be held on Monday.

The chief minister will also hand over the keys of houses constructed under LIFE Mission in the district, during the function at municipal town hall, North Paravur.

In Ernakulam, 2,448 houses suffered more than 75 per cent damage which were categorised as fully damaged and are being reconstructed. Of this, 1,655 people have received installments of funds to reconstruct houses.

The rest will get funds through CSR initiatives. The total funds distributed to reconstruct completely damaged houses are Rs.97.92 crore. Rs.4 lakh has been given to those whose houses were completely damaged.

A total of 97,471 houses suffered less than 75 per cent damage and are being repaired. Of this 85,025 people have received funds for repairing their partially damaged houses. The government has disbursed a total of Rs.349 crore in Ernakulam for repairing partially damaged houses.

Those whose houses suffered damage up to 15 per cent were given Rs.10,000 while Rs.60,000 was provided for the houses with damage of 16 per cent to 29 per cent. Rs.1.25 lakh was given to the families whose houses suffered damage 30 to 50 per cent damage while the compensation for 60 to 74 per cent damage is Rs.2.5 lakhs.

District collector Muhammad Y Safirulla had recently convened a review meeting to assess the progress of reconstruction of houses under Rebuild Kerala. It has been decided to provide free electrical kits to the houses which are completed within the specified time period. The district administration is planning to complete construction of maximum houses before the onset of monsoon.
