Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court will deliver its verdict on June 4, on the maintainability of an appeal moved by TRS MLAs challenging the order of a single judge in setting aside the expulsion of two Congress MLAs from the Telangana state Assembly.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi had reserved the orders on May 2 on the maintainability of an appeal by the TRS MLAs. They had challenged the order of a single judge in setting aside the expulsion of two Congress MLAs, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S.A. Sampath Kumar.

Supreme Court senior counsel Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the expelled MLAs, contended either the Speaker or the Assembly secretary competent to challenge the order of the High Court. Asking who had authorised the TRS MLAs to file the appeal, Mr Singhvi argued that the single judge order had not caused any loss either to the MLAs or the interest of the public.

Stating that there were several issues which required detai-led hearing, he asked whether the Speaker had the power to expel a member without giving notice and without hearing an explanation. He asked that whether the Governor’s address fell within the definition of ‘Business of the House’.
