Chennai: A customer had left behind a bag containing Rs 25 lakh cash in a restaurant where he had dinner on Thursday night in Anna Nagar. The CCTV footage taken from the restaurant shows two men eating after keeping a white bag behind them. They had left the bag behind when leaving after dinner. “"On seeing the bag unclaimed for long, server Ravi took it and handed it over to the hotel manager,: the police said.
The hotel management, having found Rs 25 lakh in the bag, waited for the owner to come and reclaim the bag. But the man had not returned until 10.30 am on Friday and management representatives and server Ravi went to Anna Nagar station and handed the bag over to the police. “Although the police accepted the bag, no one claimed the bag through the day, raising suspicion of a hawala transaction or some other sort of illegal business,” the police said.
Meanwhile, Anna Nagar police inspector Saravanan presented Ravi with a wristwatch for his honesty and the hotel management promoted him as a supervisor.
The police are also trying to locate the bag’s owner.
