Hyderabad: Woman rescued from rehab centre

“The woman has been shifted to Kasturba home in Hydershakote and a volunteer will monitor her and submit a report every fortnight.

Hyderabad: Days after an inmate of a rehab centre in Mailardevpally was allegedly found naked and confined to a dark room, the Ranga Reddy district Legal Services Authority took up her case and shifted her to a rescue home. Police said the victim is under medical supervision and they will collect details once she recovers from the trauma.

It was after the media reported about a woman in confinement at the Aram Ghar rehab centre that the Telangana Legal Services Authority took up the case suo moto and directed its Ranga Reddy Unit to provide aid to the 29 year-old victim and inquire into the issue. The Chairman of Ranga Reddy Unit appointed Advocate G. Subhashini who along with a para legal volunteer visited the home and initiated action to rescue her.

“The woman has been shifted to Kasturba home in Hydershakote and a volunteer will monitor her and submit a report every fortnight,” Subhashini said.

Initial investigations revealed the woman hailed from Bihar and was discharged from a rescue home in Gujarat four years ago. From there she came to Hyderabad and she was admitted at Aram Ghar home. She claims that she is married and has three children, but does not remember anything.

Mailardevpally police registered a wrongful confinement case against the home and said they will get details once she recovers.
