Bengaluru: According to the Indian Meteorological Department Bengaluru, southwest monsoon is set to enter Karnataka in the next 2-3 days. Sundar Metri, head, meteorological department Bengaluru, told Deccan Chronicle, “An active monsoon condition is prevailing over south Peninsula. It has touched Kerala coast and at present there is no advancement.”

He even stated that this year monsoon will be normal in Karnataka, which has been reeling under back-to-back droughts.

However, according to Srinivas Reddy, Director, Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, “Conditions aren’t favourable for the monsoon to enter Karnataka. Even though there is cloud formation, there isn’t enough push for the monsoon to enter the state.” He stated that rain over Davangere, Chitradurga and other interior parts of the state were not due to monsoon, but were part of pre monsoon showers. But rain over coastal Karnataka regions including Uttara Kannada and Udupi were due to the impact of monsoon. According to weather reports updated on Thursday, monsoon is expected to enter the state on June 2 night or on June 3, Reddy said.
