Telangana to Uma Bharathi: Don't issue notification by KRMB
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has written to Union water resources minister Uma Bharathi requesting her not to issue the draft notification submitted by Krishna River Management Board for taking control of all the irrigation projects as it will adversely affect the interests of Telangana State.
In a letter to the Union minister, the TS Chief Minister has stated that the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal was yet to consider the plea of TS and give appropriate award with regard to distribution of waters. Issue of notification at this stage will perpetuate the injustice meted out for the past six decades to Telangana by the erstwhile AP state, Mr Rao wrote.
He said that no such notification was contemplated by the sister board, the Godavari River Management Board, and for the reasons best known, the KRMB has forwarded the draft notification without adequate consultation with the partner states.
Mr Rao brought to the notice of the Union minister that in the fourth KRMB meeting held on May 27, a draft notification was circulated to member states, that was said to be in accordance with the sub-section (1) of Section 87 of the AP Reorganisation Act.
Quoting extensively the various provisions of the Act, the Chief Minister stated, “KRMB has to function in terms of the Award in force. The Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-1 (Bachawat) Award, which is in force, had not made any allocation to any of the projects in both the states. Hence there is no justification to issue the draft notification at this juncture.”
