Government staff strike to hit Bengaluru
Bengaluru: All state government services are expected to be affected on Thursday following a strike call given by the state government employees association. The association has termed the strike as a token protest against the state government’s apathy towards their demands.
Major demands:
According to the association members, they want the salaries and perks of state government employees to be on par with their central counterparts.
According to the association members, on April 18 they had met the chief secretary, Aravind Jadhav, and had submitted a memorandum highlighting their demands. As the state government has not yet met their demands, a strike call has been given, they added.
Departments to be hit: According to the association members, all the state government employees will boycott work on Thursday. Important departments including home, revenue, commercial taxes, agriculture, education and transport will remain closed due to the strike.
Though health department employees have announced their support, they will not boycott emergency work such as operation theatre duties, medicine supplies, etc.
Schools are expected to remain closed. “We have not received any concrete information from the teachers. But headmasters will attend duty," an officer from the state education department informed.
On Wednesday, students felt the heat of the strike at Bangalore University (BU) as non-teaching staff participated in a day-long strike.
The non-teaching staff of the university are seeking revision of various perks and timely promotions. As the staff went on strike, students could not get their work done.
The Karnataka Examination Authority has postponed sportspersons document verification process scheduled on Thursday to June 9 following strike call by state government employees.
