Double-decker trains soon in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) is likely introduce a double-decker train between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada on a trial basis in July before extending it to Tirupati. If the hints given by the railway officials are anything to go by, a train fitted with vistadome coaches would also run soon from Visakhapat-nam to Araku, instead of attaching vistadome coaches to the Kirandul passenger.
On the last day of Rail Hamsafar Saptaah held from May 26 to June 1, the railway officials interacted with the media. ECoR DRM Chandralekha Mukherjee informed that vistadome coaches are currently being refurbished and they would launch the coaches by year end.
“To ease congestion between Duvvada-Visakhapat-nam, we would set up another automatic signalling system between Gopalapatnam and Duvvada stations. We are continuously monitoring the tracks, which are prone to the fall of boulders. The Indian Railways is set to achieve another milestone of creating a capacity to handle 1.2 billion tonne of cargo in the coming days,” she added. She said the Waltair division received 11 shields including that for overall performance due to its best performance last year.
