Vijayawada: Poll code not to obstruct supply of drinking water
Vijayawada: Krishna district collector A.Md. Imtiaz said the officials can take measures to supply drinking water to various habitations which were facing a crisis as the election code would not object to the supply of drinking water. The model code of conduct is in force in the state.
He addressed the MPDOs, RWS, panchayati raj and municipal department officials here on Wednesday and discussed drinking water scarcity in the district.
The collector said there would be no problem to supply drinking water till May 30 and predicted the monsoon would hit the state by June 15, after which there will be rain.
He directed the RWS officials to repair the borewells to supply drinking water and also to sanction new borewells which can be dug utilising the emergency fund.
He ordered the officials to remove unofficial tap connections at Pidikurapadu, Rayanna-padu, Kotturu, and Tadepalli in Vijayawada Rural. He said 389 summer storage tanks had been filled with water from Ryves, KEB, Bandar, Eluru canals, NSP, Gollapudi LI and Polavaram drain.
He told the Municipal authorities to take measures to supply water to all the wards and sanitizing the ground level workers. He said that they received the reports from Musunuru, Chatrayi, A.Konduru, Reddy Gudem, Tiruvuru, Chandarlapadu, Bapulapadu, Namndigama, Vissannapeta and Gamplagudem mandals as the groundwater levels were dropped, hence the officers at those mandals have to take special care to supply drinking water to those mandal people.
