Vijayawada: Builders told to keep abreast with GST laws

Noted chartered accountants K. Diwakar and Ch. Sudhir told the builders about the GST laws.

Vijayawada: Builders in the city were briefed about the GST laws and told to keep themselves updated about the same while filing returns.

The builders attended an awareness workshop on GST organised by the Builders Association of India (BAI) marking the May Day, here on Wednesday.

Noted chartered accountants K. Diwakar and Ch. Sudhir told the builders about the GST laws.

Mr Diwakar said that there have been changes in the GST laws in the new academic year.

He said that one per cent GST will be charged up to 965 square feet on the existing charges and beyond that, an additional five per cent would be charged which can be paid in two instalments. He suggested that the builders should have clarity on changes in the GST.

BAI, Amaravati Chapter chairman M. Bhargava Kumar complained that the builders were being burdened due to the new norms of GST, even when the government claims that the changes were done to benefit the builders.

He felt that the government should have tried to assess the benefits the changed laws could do to the builders before implementing them.

A. Nagamalleswara Rao, M. Poornachandra Rao, T. Panakala Rao and others were present.
