Rajahmundry: Officials to keep tab on illegal buildings

Apartment residents are more concerned about their safety.

Rajahmundry: Municipal commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi directed the town planning authorities to find out unauthorised construction of buildings and also those who failed to get regularised under Building Penalisation Scheme to initiate necessary action at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

The municipal commissioner directed the authorities to form into three teams to inspect all 50 divisions in the city and prepare a report on unauthorised construction of buildings and those which failed to get regularised under BPS in a week’s time.

He asked the town planning authorities to impose penalty of 10 per cent on buildings which failed to get regularised under BPS and take other punitive measures against the building owners as per norms of the Andhra Pradesh Building Rules, 2017.

The municipal commissioner also asked the officials to carry out their inspection in compliance with rules and advised them not to succumb to any pressure tactics from anyone.

Based on his direction, the civic authorities inspected buildings at Division No. 23 and stopped construction works on some buildings as they were being taken up without obtaining requisite permission and in some cases, the scaffoldings for buildings were removed.
