Kurnool: Nandyal fondly remembers SPY Reddy

As a three-term MP of Nandyal S.P.Y. Reddy endeared himself to the electorate and was popular, particularly among small and marginal farmers.

Kurnool: Nandyal Town plunged into darkness after knowing about the death of Sannapureddy Pedda Yerikala Reddy, popularly known as S.P.Y Reddy. He breathed his last on Tuesday at a private hospital in Hyderabad, owing to multiple organ failure.

As a three-term MP of Nandyal S.P.Y. Reddy endeared himself to the electorate and was popular, particularly among small and marginal farmers. He was instrumental in providing plants in every village, under Nandyal constituency.

As a promoter of Nandi Group of companies, Reddy launched unique marketing programmes such as 100 PVC pipes and to give a free delivery at one’s door step.

People who know him closely said that Reddy was a true innovator and an enterprising man, all through his career. “Modest is what defines him as he shunned pomp and ostentatious living and set a real example among peers and followers to lead a life of austerity. He was an Abhyasi of Rama Chandra Mission.”.

Reddy dreamt of providing stomach full of food to needy people at the cost of just one rupee. He drew up a plan to roll out outlets that sell Jowar roti and lentil soup for just one rupee, 20 years ago. He told DC that he had to shelve the project as he faced logistic challenges in serving lentil soup fresh.

Among the leaders, who paid last respects to Reddy on Tuesday, include health minister N.M.D. Farooq, Nandyal MLA Bhuma Bramha-nanda Reddy, E. Prathap Reddy, K.E. Prabhakar etc. The funeral will take place on Thursday within his residential complex, said a family member.
