Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has issued orders on Tuesday for implementing Telugu as a compulsory subject in schools.
As per the Government Order dated May 1, 2018 schools should implement Telugu as a compulsory subject in schools from the academic year 2018-2019.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao earlier said that his state government had decided to make Telugu a mandatory subject in all public and private schools from the coming academic year.
In March this year a Bill was passed in the Telangana Legislative Assembly making Telugu compulsory in all schools.
The Telangana state government received the sub-committee report on making Telugu mandatory from Class I to Intermediate in November 2017, after which the Bill was moved on the floor of the House by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiam Srihari in March 2018.
