Tamil Nadu CM allocates Rs 654 crore for Greater Chennai

Entire Ambattur constituency will get new LED lights and a state-of-art Amma marriage hall will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

Chennai: The state has allocated Rs 354 crore for the much-awaited underground electric cables project in Greater Chennai and another Rs 300 crore will be spent to alleviate flooding by constructing stormwater drains, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said while addressing a May Day meeting organised by the ruling AIADMK in Ambattur.

Entire Ambattur constituency will get new LED lights and a state-of-art Amma marriage hall will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Tenders will be floated soon to lay new tar roads connecting bus route roads and new concrete roads will come up in interior areas, the CM said. To ease traffic congestion a subway at Korattur railway level crossing will be constructed and is awaiting tenders.

Further the constituency will also get new water purifying treatment plants in seven wards and the lakes located in western Chennai would be spruced up, he said. Lakes in Ambattur and Korattur are identified for a major lake restoration program and efforts will be made to convert the water bodies into bird sanctuaries and in a phased manner they will be converted in to a tourist destination, the CM emphasized.

Admitting that the state was also concerned about the labourers working in unorganized sectors. Palaniswami said new temporary shelters for the construction workers will be built at a cost of Rs 106 crore in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai and Salem districts.

The CM also took a dig at DMK and alleged that the Opposition party was instigating workers and trade union members to stage protests for their political gains.
