Tamil Nadu close to achieving target in Gram Swaraj Abhiyan

According to sources, a total of 1,183 villages out of 1,477 selected under this programme, have been saturated.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu is within the striking distance of achieving its goal for Gram Swaraj Abhiyan - village self-governance campaign - programme in about 1,477 select villages.

As the campaign draws to a close on May 5, Union minister of state for finance and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan reviewed the pace of implementation of the BJP-led government's seven flagship schemes.

This Abhiyan is being undertaken for reaching out to poor households, spreading awareness about government welfare schemes and other people centric initiatives. Besides the Union minister, the state unit of the BJP has been carrying out campaign in the districts to take the central schemes to the people's door-steps. At the district level, the collectors of 30 districts in the state where the villages have been selected, are closely monitoring the implementation of the programme.

The Gram Swaraj Abhiyan campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, is aimed at making the villages saturated in the seven programmes: Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (clean cooking fuel), Saubhagya Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijili Har Ghar Yojana (LED lights), Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (financial inclusion), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (life insurance), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (accident insurance) and Mission Indradhanush (health mission).

According to sources, a total of 1,183 villages out of 1,477 selected under this programme, have been saturated. Cent per cent coverage has been achieved with regard to Saubhagya, saturated 1,401 villages in Jan Dhan Yojana, 1,321 villages under life insurance and 1,350 villages under accident insurance while 1,183 villages have been saturated under the Ujjwala Yojana.
