HC asks Telangana, Andhra Pradesh: Why no awareness on domestic violence

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Centre and the state governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to explain the reasons for not taking up programmes to create awareness among women on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi was dealing with a PIL by Tandava Yogesh, a law student from Prakasam district, seeking to declare the action of the respondents in not propagating the the Act as “illegal”.

He contended that Section 11 of the Act mandates governments take up the awareness programmes through newspapers, television and other modes of communications.

Compensation paid for collectorate land high: HC

The Hyderabad HC on Tuesday opined that the TS state government has paid four-and-a-half times more compensation to private lands acquired for constructing the Collectorate Complex for Suryapet district between Kudakuda and Bebigudem villages near Suryapet town.

A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi was dealing with a PIL by Chakilam Rajeswara Rao seeking to declare the action of the government in constructing the Collectorate in acquiring the private land despite plenty of government land available in Suryapet town as illegal.
