Bengaluru: Despite repeated claims the Bescom and state government have miserably failed in providing uninterrupted power supply to the city residents.
They point out that even during election time, when governments make all out efforts to keep voters in good humour, the authorities have shown a cavalier attitude towards ensuring something as basic as proper power supply.
The government has failed to devise a mechanism and failed to maintain transformers and transmission units, pushing citizens to darkness, energy experts opined.
Power outages have become a routine affair during pre-monsoon season. The power department reduces its dependency on non-renewable energy and must take up renewable energy sources for uninterrupted power supply, the felt.
The state government has set up the solar park near Pavagada. However, it has to be maintained effectively for proper energy distribution.
Indiranagar, Kengeri, Banasawadi, Ramamurthynagar, Jayanagar, Shakhambarinagar are some of the areas which were pushed to darkness due to transmission problems.
With the government miserably failing to ensure power supply during a pre-monsoon shower, citizens wonder how it is going to be once monsoon sets in.
Shankar Kumar, a resident of Tilak Nagar, fumed, “The government is only bothered about elections, but not about the people, who are made to spend hours without power supply. If this is the condition now, then imagine what it would be after they win their elections.”
The government had assured that there would be no load shedding, but this kind of disruption is worse than load shedding. We are being made fools. People should collectively refrain from voting, he added.
The frequent power outages have taken a toll on small scale industries, as they are not able to ensure optimum output.
Sunil Samson, a paper manufacturer in Peenya industrial area, said, “We are finding it difficult to run our machines and cannot use generators constantly. We talk proudly about development of our state, but a slight drizzle will make the entire city dark. We have power cuts everyday which is not less than three hours. The government is only bothered about their interest. We cannot blame Bescom for everything.”
The rain and heavy wind on Monday evening also resulted in power disruptions across the city. The Bescom received 1,200 complaints from 4 pm to 7 pm out of which 137 were attended.
