Telangana: Congress, TRS spar at chilli mart

There were heated arguments between leaders from Congress and TRS at the chilli market here on Monday.

Khammam: There were heated arguments between leaders from Congress and TRS at the chilli market here on Monday. Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, TPCC president Bhatti Vikramarka and MP V. Hanumantha Rao visited the market and interacted with farmers. A member from the Chamber of Commerce met the Congress leaders and tried to explain the situation. Intervening in the discussion, Bhatti said the Chamber of Commerce earlier used to behave like an independent body and is acting as TRS body now. “It is not right to sail with the ruling party for the Chamber of Commerce which is a reputable organisation,” he said.

“Are you supplying chilli to the Chinese company at Mudigonda after purchasing it from farmers,” he asked. Chamber member Godavarthi Srinivasa Rao tried to deviate from the issue. When Bhatt insisted, he replied in affirmative. TRS leaders, led by M. Nageswara Rao and others, had an argument with Congress leaders. V. Hanumantha Rao said, “TRS leaders were trained well to intercept the programme of the Opposition parties. TRS leaders and traders have connived in the market and are looting the farmers.”

ACP P.V. Ganesh placed hundreds of cops to check the movement of leaders. Jana Reddy asked market committee chairman K. Krishna about the present situation in the market. Jana Reddy said the Chief Minister should resolve the issue first. Congress leaders later went to the sub-jail and met arrested farmers.
