Nothing political in meeting Natarajan, says TN Congress chief
Chennai: TNCC chief Su Thirunavukkarasar who stirred up a hornet's nest when he met Natarajan, husband of Sasikala, said on Monday that there was nothing political in the meeting.
"There was nothing political in the meeting. I had enquired him about his health as he was not keeping well recently," Mr Thirunavukkarasar said in reply to a question on the controversial meeting. Explaining further, the Congress chief said he had participated in the salt satyagraha anniversary at Vedaranyam (where C. Rajagopalachari led the march to protest against the salt tax imposed by the British, in April 1930) and thereafter proceeded to Thanjavur and took part in several functions.
"I had attended several functions and also the death of Mahadevan in Thanjavur. Mahadevan's uncle was a Congressman. Natarajan was present on the occasion. When I saw him (Natarajan) I enquired about his health. That's all. There is nothing political in the chance meeting," Mr Thirunavukkarasar told reporters at the airport here on Monday.
He took strong exception to the BJP leaders for "failing" to arrange for a meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the agitating farmers in New Delhi and said had the PM met the farmers' representatives, the agitation could have come to an end.
