KT Rama Rao meets ministers, seeks help for projects

Mr Rao urged the Centre to fund the T-Fibre project for providing Internet connectivity to all.

Hyderabad: Minister for IT and industries K.T. Rama Rao spent a busy day on Monday in New Delhi, meeting several Union ministers and seeking funds for various projects.

Mr Rao urged the Centre to fund the T-Fibre project for providing Internet connectivity to all. He also sought setting up of four mega food processing parks in Telangana.

Mr Rao met Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping, Nitin Gadkari, Union minister of IT, Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union minister of Food processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal and minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha.

Mr Rao informed Mr Sinha about the Telangana government’s plans to provide Internet connectivity to one crore households under the T-Fibre project.

He sought the Centre’s financial assistance for the T-Fibre project in advance so that the project can be completed faster.

However, Mr Sinha told Mr Rao that there are certain limitations in giving advance funds to states and suggested that he meet finance minister Arun Jaitley in this regard.

Mr Rao told Mr Sinha that the TS government will soon submit proposals to Mr Jaitley for the purpose.

Later, Mr Rao met Ms Kaur for setting up four mega food processing parks in Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad and Khammam districts.

He urged starting a cold storage facility in his home constituency of Siricilla.

Mr Rao, who later met Mr Gadkari, sought Rs 1,700 crore to construct elevated corridors on Warangal, Vijayawada and Bengaluru highways passing through the city to ease traffic congestion, besides funds for pending road projects.

Mr Rao took up the issue of the ITIR project announced by the previous UPA government to Telangana, when he met Mr Ravishankar Prasad. He said the project had failed to take off so far and urged him to take a decision on the funding for the project.

He told him about the Telangana governemnt's policies on encouraging pharma, electronic, electric manufacturing sectors in a big way and sought Centre's cooperation to speed up the projects.
