Goods train derailment hits Kalaburagi rail traffic

The Railway authorities employed large cranes to clear the tracks.

KALABURAGI: A large number of passengers travelling by train via Kalaburagi and Solapur were affected on Monday following derailment of a goods train near Dudhani railway station in Solapur Wadi division near here on Sunday night.

Railway officials said that the goods train from Malkhed in Sedam taluk was going towards Hotagi when the derailing took place around 12.30 am. Six bogies of the goods train derailed, affecting the train movement on the critical Mumbai-Chennai route that connects Mumbai with southern cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru.

No casualty has been reported. Several trains running on the route were diverted via Wadi-Viakarabad and Solapur-Daund route. The people on these trains had to travel 6-10 hours more to reach their destinations.

Among the trains affected on the South Central Railway Zone that are diverted via longer routes are CST Mumbai- Bhubaneshwar Konark Express, CST Mumbai- Kanyakumari Express, New Delhi- KSR Bengaluru Karnataka Express, CST Mumbai-Chennai central Express, Dadar-Chennai Egmore Express, Varanasi-Mysuru Express, CST Mumbai-Hyderabad Husainsagar Express, Yeswanthpur-Ahmedabad Express and Hyderabad-CST Express. Basava Express from Mysuru to Bagalkote and Yeshwanthpur-Solapur Express were halted at Kalaburagi.

The Railway authorities employed large cranes to clear the tracks. However till Monday evening, train service was not resumed.
