Youth tires to fling chappal at Nitish Kumar, held

The youth tried to fling slipper at the CM as new advisory by government angered him.

Patna: A youth was arrested on Monday after he made an abortive attempt to throw slipper at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The incident occurred when the CM was busy meeting people during ‘Janata ke Darbar mein Mukhya Mantri’ programme at his official residence.

“The youth has been arrested and we are trying to find out the motive behind the act,” Manu Maharaj, Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna said.

It later appeared that the youth, who incidentally goes by the name of Nitish Kumar, was protesting the advisory issued by the state government which stops people of Bihar to cook or perform havana pujas during daytime in rural areas.

The Chief Minister condemned the act, saying, “Throwing chappals at me will not solve problems, but I have forgiven the youth and have asked the DGP to forgive him from my side.”

“Running a government is like wearing crown of thorns. It’s my duty to create an environment of safety and governance in the state,” said Nitish Kumar.

“I don’t need certificate of religion from anyone. My government works for the people,” he added.

The advisory was issued by the disaster management department last month to avert fire incidents. CM said that the advisory was issued after detailed study of some of recent incidents in which several people lost their lives. “I am running a government here and not doing a job. The state government has issued the advisory for the safety of public in Bihar,” said Kumar.

It emerged that the youth has created ugly scenes earlier too at the 'Janata Darbar' programme of senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
