Wrap-up: Blast from the past
The BJP yet again targeted Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday asking her to name the bribe takers in the Rs 3,600 core chopper deal but the Congress hit back saying BJP president Amit Shah’s demand was a “no confidence vote” on the Modi government which has “failed” in its job in last two years.
As the Congress said it was for the investigating agencies to bring out the names of bribe takers, the government came out with a statement that it will leave no stone unturned to bring to justice the corrupt and wrong doers.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former IAF chief S.P. Tyagi in connection with its money laundering probe in the '3,600 crore AgustaWestland VVIP choppers deal case.
This is the first time that the ex-Chief Of Staff of the Indian Air Force has been summoned by the central agency. Official sources said the summons to Tyagi have been issued under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The allegation against the former Air chief is that he allegedly reduced the height of the VVIP helicopters so that AgustaWestland could be included in the bids.
Meanwhile, the CBI on Saturday examined former Deputy Chief of Indian Air Force J.S. Gujral in connection with alleged irregularities in the VVIP chopper deal. He was one of the many senior officials who were part of the meeting in 2005 when a decision to alter the required specifications was taken.
