Oommen Chandy bares PM Modi’s claim on ‘minority seat’
Kochi: Congress Working Committee member Oommen Chandy on Monday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for termed Wayanad indirectly as a minority dominated constituency where Hindus are in the majority.
Addressing a press conference here, the former chief minister said Hindus are 52 per cent in the constituency which includes parts of Malappuram and Kozhikode.
In Wayanad district, Hindus form 62 per cent of the population. He said the allegation that Mr Gandhi was scared of a Hindu backlash. He also said that he contesting from Wayanad was not giving any wrong message as alleged by his successor Pinarayi Vijayan. “How can Rahul contesting from a sitting seat of Congress send a wrong message. We have made it clear that BJP is our enemy number one.
The CPM party congress took the decision not to have a truck with Congress, (not us),” said Mr Chandy. He also said that Mr Gandhi would decide on retaining Wayanad when he wins Amethi as well. He also said people of Kerala would give a befitting reply to the slight on Congress president by the CPM organ Deshabhimani in an editorial titled: Pappu Strike to complete Congress Collapse.
The senior leader said that his battle from Wayanad would invigorate the campaign against BJP and its allies in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu with which Wayanad shares borders.
