Kochi: After the alleged assault on a nine-year-old by two of his neighbours in Mattancherry over domestic disputes, the family is living in fear of attack.
The family had reportedly received threats from associates of the assailants arrested by the police on Saturday, Ranjith (25) and his friend Sharon (23).
They threatened the family to withdraw the complaint against the accused currently in judicial custody charged under Sections like 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 327 (voluntarily causing hurt to extort property or to constrain to an illegal act).
According to police, there was some domestic dispute between them which led to the incident a fortnight back. The two assaulted the boy, a Panayappilly native, and the member of the complainant's family, who was returning home after tuition over a dispute over spreading clothes.
The boy who sustained a fracture on his leg and injury to his backbone is undergoing treatment.
Police said that the accused were drunk when they attacked the boy.
The family, consisting of his mother, grandmother and two young brothers living alone after their father abandoned them, admitted the boy to Karuvelipady Hospital.
