Death at Ranam movie set: Police arrest stunt master

The debris of the car was blown in the air in the planned cylinder blast for a car-crash scene.

Bengaluru: Two days after the tragedy on the sets of Kannada movie 'Ranam', where a mother and her daughter were killed in a cylinder blast during the shooting of an action sequence, the police have arrested the stunt master of the movie.

The Bagalur police, who were investigating the case after the Friday's incident, arrested Subhash, who was stunt master overseeing the car crash scene.

"We have arrested Subhash and further investigation is on," the police said.

The deceased, Sumera Banu (28) and her daughter Ayesha Banu (8), were watching the movie shooting at Bagalur Industrial Area when the debris from the car hit a family of four, killing Sumera and Ayesha on the spot, leaving Sumera's husband Tabrez and another daughter injured.

The debris of the car was blown in the air in the planned cylinder blast for a car-crash scene. The sequence went wrong and the debris directly hit the deceased.

The initial probe revealed that the crew of the movie had not obtained prior permission to shoot the blast sequence and had also not taken any safety measures around the shoot site.

"The film's crew had taken permission from the police and fire department only for the shooting and not to shoot the blast scene." DG of Fire Services M.N. Reddi said.

Ranam, starring Chethan Ahimsa and Chiranjeevi Sarja, is directed by V. Samudra.
