Morphing row shocks Vadakara

Women fear their distorted photos may pop up in net any time.

KOZHIKODE: Malolmukku in Vyppilasseri village, near Vadakara, is a small place. Everyone knows everyone here. For weeks now villagers, especially women, are living in a state of shock ever since the news broke that their trusted Sadayam Studio indulged in morphing their videos. Not many are aware of the cyber crimes, but almost all of them now fear that their morphed video clippings might pop up on the internet any day.

Victims here allege a conspiracy between the police and the CPM are delaying the arrest of the owners of the studio, their father being a branch committee member of the party. Both the owner Dinesan Cherottu Meethal and his brother Satheesan, who had been managing the studio, are absconding, ever since the Vadakara police registered the case. The issue propped up after their video editor Bibeesh left the studio and started his own studio in Purameri. The victims allege that the owners were aware of Bibeesh morphing the video clippings, and they encouraged it, till he broke the ranks.

"The owners are equally responsible, because they encouraged this crime at their studio. This is not a photography studio, but an editing zone, where videographers from Kozhikode, Thalassery and Vadakara approach to edit their work. So, the degree of the crime is very huge. This is not confined to Vadakara alone, though the studio is situated here," said a man, whose wife is one of the complainants.

He added that once the cops start mediation talks in the station, they may not collect evidence from the families of the accused. They also allege that the woman investigation officer fears to take action against those who are closer to the CPM hierarchy. However, Women Cell CI Bhanumathi dismissed the allegation and said that investigation was in progress.
