Hyderabad: A case for causing death due to negligence registered against the contractor Gammon India, in the Punjagutta Flyover case, did not stand in court.
The accident in 2007 had claimed two lives and injured several others. The court delivered the judgment after verifying weather reports and technical evidences submitted by investigating agencies.
Initially a case under Sections 304 A (negligent act leading to death), 336, 337 and 338 for causing injuries due to the collapse of the under-construction flyover was registered at the Punjagutta police station. It was later transferred to the CCS. CCS officials had collected evidence against Gammon India Limited, Tanikella Integrated Con-sultants and the Water Board in the case.
Investigations found that the Water Board officials had dug trenches and the GHMC had directed it to fill the excavated trenches with stone quarry dust. But the trenches were filled with loose soil.
The accident occurred due to sliding of pre-cast cement segments after a heavy downpour. The court examined around 40 witnesses. The case was acquitted in 2015.
