Chennai: Six injured as MTC bus runs amok in RBI subway

While the bus entered the RBI subway, the driver swerved to the left and hit the sidewall.

Chennai: Six persons were injured including the conductor of an MTC bus when it ran amok in the RBI subway near secretariat, on Friday. The MTC route 102K bus driven by Satheesh, was heading to Broadway from Kannagi Nagar, when the mishap occurred at around 10 am.

While the bus entered the RBI subway, the driver swerved to the left and hit the sidewall. The bus came to a halt with its side brushing the wall for about 15 m.
On impact, at least four window frames came off along with the rear doors. A woman passenger suffered a hairline fracture while five men including the bus conductor Satheesh suffered minor injuries in the incident. Sundarraj, the bus driver, told police that he had to swerve the bus to the left to avoid hitting a two-wheeler that came in the way of the bus.

Police said that the accident could have happened due to a brake failure. It was taken into their custody, and will be tested by the Transport department. This was the fourth trip by the MTC crew on this route on Friday. Sundarraj has been working as a driver for the past 5 years. He has also been booked for causing the accident.
