Hyderabad: Four members of a family sustained injuries when cooking gas from a cylinder exploded at a house in Saroornagar, at about 2 am on Sunday.  The condition of the four injured persons is stable. They have been identified as S. Ramesh, 31, a watchman, Laxman, 25, Leelamma, 62, and Tejaswini.

The explosion in the apartment damaged vehicles parked near the building, and shattered the glass of the windows of the parked cars, leaving colony residents in a state of shock.

According to Inspector Srinivas Reddy, S. Ramesh was suddenly woken up by the smell of gas that wafted through the house and alerted the family. Everyone went outside. But later, when he switched on the lights so he could turn off the gas regulator, the explosion occurred, which sounded like a bomb blast, Ramesh said. The fire spread to the opposite flat and a woman there was injured. The watchman and his family were shifted to Osmania Hospital. One of them, Lelamma, 62 years old, has sustained 50 per cent burns and her condition is said to be critical.
