Bengaluru: App to spot vehicle charging stations

The electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are important for people using electric vehicles.

Bengaluru: If you are driving an electric vehicle (EV) in the city and running low on charge, but at the same time you don’t know where the nearest charging station is, then the proposed Bescom app can be of help. This app, which will be released soon, will provide information regarding the location of charging stations in the city. Bescom is also pushing to open more EV charging stations to encourage people use electric vehicles, which would help in reducing air pollution.

A senior Bescom officer said, “In our process of creating awareness on using electric vehicles, we are ensuring that there are proper facilities available. The EV charging stations are important for people using electric vehicles. Whenever they run out of charge, it is difficult for them to recharge, as there are no facilities available. We have already set up numerous EV charging stations and in June around 12 stations will be inaugurated along with the launching of the app.”

He claimed there is very little awareness among the public about the presence of such stations. “In order to help them to know the location, we are working on a mobile phone application, where people can log in and find out the nearest location of the charging station. The app will have more features about logging complaints, if there is an issue at the station and also we would like people to give us feedback after using these charging stations, which would help us in improving the facilities,” he added.

Bescom is also planning to set up charging stations along the highway towards Ramanagar. “We are trying to look at the feasibility to set up charging stations along the highway, but we are yet to finalise the locations,” said another officer.
