CPI warns Big Brother
Malappuram: The CPI on Thursday hit out at CPM’s “big brother” attitude, pointing out that no one was big or small in the LDF coalition. The organisational report presented by CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran at the inaugural session of state conference in Malappuram, said all coalition partners in the LDF were equals. It opposed the CPM formula of LDF expansion by taking K.M. Mani on board, citing corruption cases against the KC(M) leader. It reminded that alliance with PDP was rejected by the people. Such alliances will not do any good in attracting the minorities to the LDF fold.
The CPI said the JDU and RSP had left the coalition after their seats were usurped. Efforts should be made to bring back all those parties which left LDF on non-ideological issues. The CPI report criticised the government stand on various issues. It reiterated the opposition to encounter of Maoists in Nilambur. The party had opposed Maoist fake encounter saying a Left government cannot follow the police policy of Chattisgarh or Jharkhand. On the Right to Information Act, the CPI expressed its opposition to the dilution of the provisions. Moreover, CPI had called for bringing Cabinet decisions within the purview of the RTI Act. However, the Chief Minister had taken a divergent stand on the issue. The CPI is also cut up with the CPM over the latter’s repeated statements on making Athirapally project a reality. The party believes the
Athirapally project was against the interests of local tribals and the government needs to explore alternative sources of energy including solar and wind to meet the demand. Failure to implement some of the major promises made in LDF manifesto has also come in for criticism in the report. One of major concern raised by the party is the delay in constituting State Vigilance Commission. V.S. Achuthanandan-led State Administrative Reforms Commission had recommended the setting of the commission on the lines of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
The CPI strongly opposed the politics of murder in Kannur and other parts of the state. The report pointed out that murder politics had dented LDF’s image besides diverting the attention of the people from good work of the government. Countering the criticism raised by CPM delegates against CPI ministers, the report hailed the performance of their representatives in the Cabinet. The report came down heavily on senior leader K.E. Ismail for his lifestyle.
