Hyderabad: A day after the Centre allotted a meagre Rs 100 crore for the multipurpose Polavaram project with a revised estimate of over Rs 30,000 crore, Union water resource minister Uma Bharati on Tuesday said that she has invited AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for talks on completion of the project.
Speaking to newsmen in Delhi, Ms Bharati said she had asked Mr Naidu to come to Delhi along with senior officials so that both the Central and state governments could work out a plan on completing the project on time, including allocating sufficient funds.
Ruling out further increase of Polavaram dam height from the +155 ft MSL, she denied any complacency on the part of the Centre in allocation of funds for the project. When asked how could Rs 100 crore be sufficient to meet the huge expenditure planned under Polavaram dam, she said “Whatever the project authority asked, we allotted it.”
