Hyderabad: Over 12 lakh LED bulbs will be distributed in six lakh households in
25 municipalities in the state as part of a 100-day programme to replace energy-inefficient bulbs.
Lights in all 90 lakh households will be replaced in the second phase under the scheme that is jointly sponsored by the Centre and the state government.
A decision to this effect was taken by ministers K.T. Rama Rao, G. Jagadish Reddy and A. Indrakaran Reddy in a meeting at the Chief Minister’s camp office.
Mr Rama Rao has requested the Centre to supply the bulbs at reduced prices.
He asked officials to prepare an action plan to extend the scheme to village panchayats as well.
LED bulbs will be installed on streetlights in phases, he said.
Mr Jagadish Reddy said that the aim of the programme was to save energy by supplying 9-Watts LED bulbs in major gram panchayats. He said households in Medak, Nalgonda and Nizamabad districts will also be getting this facility in the near future.
The government will pay for two LED bulbs to every household. In doing so, the energy department will be the beneficiary in the form of energy savings, Mr Jagadish Reddy said.
