Namakku Naame huge success: M K Stalin

Stalin appreciated the gesture by his cadres of not putting up party flags, banners and other publicity material during the trip.

Chennai: Referring to his Namakku Naame campaign as “one of those moments in life that cannot be described using mere words”, DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Tuesday credited its ‘success’ to his party cadres.

In a letter, Stalin, who is also the party’s youth wing president, attempted to reason with DMK cadres that he only had the welfare of Tamil Nadu and its people in mind when he instructed them to not celebrate his birthday and to not participate in the Namakku Naame public interactions.

“I understand that you [cadres] are all angry and disappointed with me. But I hold an unshakeable belief in your ability to understand why I instructed you to do so,” Stalin said.

“As a result, the ruling and opposition party leaders are talking about how their group could not come up with such an organised campaign,” he added.

Stating that he had travelled 11,100 km during his campaign across 234 assembly constituencies, Stalin said that he initially had doubts on whether the campaign would be successful. “But doubts were quelled in Kanyakumari itself when I saw the turnout with my eyes,” he said.

Stalin appreciated the gesture by his cadres of not putting up party flags, banners and other publicity material during the trip. “When I asked you [cadres] to not do these, it may have come as a surprise. But you stuck by me and my words and when I think of it now, I am humbled by your gesture,” he said.

Asserting that he would need the support of all cadres post assembly elections, Stalin said that he will need them alongside in his “journey” after assembly elections. “We will go hand-in-hand forward,” he added.
