Jayalalithaa inaugurates Rs 1,200 crore projects
Chennai: Poll bound Tamil Nadu on Tuesday witnessed a flood of new announcements and schemes.
Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa unveiled a host of healthcare initiatives, infrastructure projects and flagged off new buses.
In all, she unveiled infra and health projects worth Rs 1,200 crore in less than an hour’s time through video-conferencing. She also launched novel schemes including “Amma master health checkup”, “Amma women special master health checkup” and “Amma Arokiya Thittam (Amma Health Plan)” adding to the list of Amma schemes.
A press release said the newly furbished health check up centre at the Government General Hospital will execute both the health schemes. Basic tests to detect diabetes, blood pressure, thyroid, screening for cholesterol and liver function will be conducted. Diagnostic investigations like ECG and USG abdomen using high end machines will also be available for public at a nominal fee.
The state also launched the Amma Health Plan in all the 385 upgraded Primary Health Centres wherein basic tests including, blood, urine, sugar, and ECG, will be done free of cost.
The CM also inaugurated new buildings in various hospitals, constructed at a cost of Rs 207.37 crore, dedicated new diagnostic equipment like MRI scan and lithotripsy worth Rs 21.11 crore and laid foundation stones for medical college and hospital buildings at Pudukottai and Karur, to be built at a cost of Rs 458.92 crore.
Under the municipal administration and water supply department, civic projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore were announced. Solar powered concrete houses for 20,000 families, presently residing in huts and mud-houses in certain local bodies, were also announced.
Jayalalithaa also declared open the start-up warehouse of Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV set up at a cost of Rs 3.53 crore and the Rs 10.41 cloud computing facility. She also laid the foundation stone for Disaster Recovery Centre at an investment of Rs 53.28 crore and phase two of State Data Centre to be set up by Electronics Corporation of TN at a cost of Rs 40 crore, the release said.
