Hyderabad: Cop injured as rifle gets fired
Hyderabad: A Telangana State Special Police constable from the XII battalion posted at Chandampet police station in Nalgonda was injured when his gun misfired on Tuesday.
The mishap occurred when the constable, V. Venkateswarlu, was on sentry duty. Suddenly his SLR misfired and the bullet entered his body just below the chest. He was rushed to Hyderabad for treatment and his condition is critical.
His marriage was scheduled next week Vangadala Venkates-warlu (No. 1666), hailing from Nalgonda, joined TSSP in 2013. Two months ago he was deputed to Chandampet police station.
Police said that around 3.30 pm one of the staffers at the PS heard a firing sound. “He saw Venkates-warlu lying in a pool of blood. We rushed him to Hyderabad,” said Nalgonda SP Vikramjeet Duggal.
“His family also said that he did not have any issues to worry. An inquiry has already begun,” the SP added. Doctors said he is kept under observation and is in coma. A case of accidental firing was registered at the Chandampet police station.
