Hunt on for Kovai's runaway bride

Coimbatore: City police has launched a search for a 20-year-old girl who allegedly cheated several eligible grooms with the promise of marriage.

A complaint was lodged at the Coimbatore Peelamedu police station on February 28 by a software engineer Santhosh Kumar, 40, a native of Paramathiveloor, who claimed to have spent over '43 lakh on a girl named Shruthi, 20, who contacted him after seeing his registration on a matrimonial website, promising him that she would marry him.

She asked for a year’s time, saying that she needed to pay huge family debts. She made Santhosh spend more than Rs 43 lakh. When Santhosh started pressurising her to marry, the girl escaped. Santhosh realised that he was ditched and lodged a complaint.

Police came to know that Shruthi had already cheated two men in Puducherry and Nagapattinam and two complaints already exists. Police have booked cases on her under sections IPC 120 b, 406 and 420, as also on her parents.

Meanwhile, the third complaint was lodged at Peelamedu police station on Tuesday. Arul Kumaraguru Raja 28, an engineer and native of Chidambaram Sivasakthi Nagar, came to know Shruthi through WhatsApp last June. Shruthi introduced herself as a film actress and Arul Kumar claims to have spent over Rs 50 lakh on her.
