EC advisory against use of plastic during campaign

EC on Tuesday assured the Madras high court that it will issue advisory to all political parties to avoid use of plastic.

Chennai: The Election Commission of India on Tuesday assured the Madras high court that it will issue advisory to all political parties to avoid use of plastic and polythene while preparing posters and banners during the forthcoming election process.

Additional solicitor general G. Rajagopalan stated this when a PIL from advocate A. Suryaprakasam came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. M. Sundresh.

In its interim order, the bench said the additional solicitor general submitted that the election commission has issued advisory from time to time.

The last one being dated March 16, 2006, on the use of plastic during election campaign, calling upon the political parties to avoid use of plastic and polythene from preparing posters and banners during election campaign. He further assured that in the coming election process the advisory will be once again issued to all parties concerned.
