Centre did not tell Telangana of test plan
Hyderabad: Within a day of announcing the date for the Teacher Exam Test, the state government postponed it indefinitely after it learned that the Centre had constituted a high-level committee to study ways to improve the test in view of complaints from various states.
The committee was formed on February 5, but the Telangana state government had not received a communication. State officials were informed of the committee only after they anounced the TET date.
Following this, officials contacted the National Council for Teacher Education which then mailed details regarding the new panel and its terms of reference. The test was thus postponed.
NCERT director Hrushikesh Senapathy heads the five-member panel which has been given three months to submit its report. The Centre appointed the committee in view of the poor pass percentages, differences in the process in various states and consequent litigation. The committee is to provide concrete guidelines to streamline the test and details of subsequent procedures.
