AIADMK govt is soft on BJP, says EVKS Elangovan

Mr Elangovan said the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had sought Rs 28,000 crore as flood relief from the Centre.

Chennai: TNCC chief E.V.K.S. Elangovan has alleged that the ruling AIADMK is ‘soft’ on the Centre and has been maintaining “silence” over the Central minister’s charge that Tamil Nadu government distributed the central funds as relief to the flood-affected families.

Wondering why the AIADMK with 49 MPs in Parliament was not opposing the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre on various issues, Mr Elangovan said the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had sought Rs 28,000 crore as flood relief from the Centre.

“But after deputing a Central team to inspect the flood-hit areas, the Central government sanctioned only Rs 2,000 crore. The state government had disbursed ' 5,000 each to 14 lakh families affected by the deluge,” he said.

But during his recent visit to the city Union minister of state for environment Prakash Javadekar asserted that the State Government distributed '5,000 each to the 14 lakh flood-hit families only from the funds released by the Modi-government, the TNCC president said and sought to know why the chief minister was maintaining silence on the Union minister’s claim.
