30,000 houses lying vacant, says Sabita Indra Reddy
Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy district Congress leaders, led by former home minister Sabita Indra Reddy, on Tuesday questioned the state government why it has failed to allot 30,000 houses constructed and ready for occupation on the outskirts of Hyderabad to beneficiaries.
Speaking to newsmen here, Ms Reddy reminded that the previous Congress government had constructed nearly 80,000 houses on 412 acres of land at 32 places at a cost of Rs 1,742 crore. Of this, around 50,000 houses had been allotted so far.
“There are still 30,000 houses ready-for-occupation, but haven’t been allotted to the eligible. The state government should at least move now and distribute these houses to beneficiaries otherwise they may start getting decayed due to lying vacant,” she said.
Referring to media reports that as many as 1,73,000 applications have been received in Ranga Reddy district alone for the new 2BHK houses, Ms Reddy said it would be highly appreciated if the government allots the vacant 30,000 houses to the eligible.
“People still want to occupy these single bedroom houses, if the government allots these houses, the eligible will save quite a lot on rents,” she said.
