Thiruvananthapuram: Multi-level parking work to begin from next week
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The work of the first-ever multi-level public parking facility by the city corporation will be launched next week. The Rs 5.64 crores worth facility is being set up in the corporation office premises under AMRUT scheme. Hundreds of vehicles frequent the corporation office premises, which can hardly accommodate around 45 cars. “Parking has beco-me a huge issue in our premises. The work of the parking facility will take off next week,” said town planning standing committee chairman Palayam Rajan.
An official associated with the project said that the parking facility will become functional within 8 months. “The new facility will be able to accommodate around 102 cars at a time. Two more multi-level parking will be coming up at Putharikandam Maidan and Medical College Hospital premises,” said the official. The work inauguration of the facility will be held tentatively on Thursday.
“If there is excess fund we are planning to make the facility solar powered. There will be 102 individual motors which could be easily operated using solar power. Power usage will be very less,” said the official.
The authorities are expecting as many as 300 cars per day to use the multi-level parking. “Apart from this, more cars can be parked in the empty spaces inside the compound,” said the official.
