Thiruvananthapuram: Endosulfan victims' strike to go ahead
Thiruvananthapuram: The action council of endosulfan victims has decided to go ahead with the strike plan following the failure of the talks held with Health Minister K.K. Shyalaja and Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan on Friday.
The victims have decided to organise a ‘Sankada yatra’ to Cliff House, the official residence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Sunday. The revenue minister told repor-ters that people can be included in the list of endosulfan victims as per norms only. The demand of the agitators is to include 1905 people in the list.
A decision on including more people in the list can be taken within 90 days after inspection by specialist doctors.
Earlier, while replying to the notice for an adjo-urnment motion moved by N.A. Nellikkunnu of the Muslim League in the Assembly, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the district administration and the health department identify victims based on the norms fixed by the High Court in 2013.
As much as Rs 4.63 crore has been earmarked for writing off the loans up to Rs 3 lakh of endosulphan victims. Earlier, Rs 2.67 crore was earmarked for waiving loans up to Rs 50,000, said Mr Vijayan.
As Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan declined permission for the adjournment motion, Opposition staged a walk out.
