Chennai: Hit by autorickshaw, biker falls, gets run over

Chennai: In a freak accident, an autorickshaw hit a two-wheeler rider who fell on the road and was run over by an oncoming water tanker lorry near Valluvar Kottam on Friday evening,

Police identified the victim as S. Karthikeyan, 34, a resident of Kanagam near Taramani, and an employee at a private company.

 

On  Friday evening, when Karthikeyan was near the Vidyodaya School on Thirumalai Pillai road at Valluvar Kottam, an autorickshaw from the Balaji Avenue street started reversing and hit his motorbike. Karthikeyan lost control of his vehicle and fell on the road. The rear wheel of the water tanker lorry ran over his head, said a police officer. Passers by quickly summoned an ambulance but it reached an hour later, police alleged. Passers-by then picked up an argument with the ambulance driver for the delay.

Police personnel intervened and sent the body to the Royapettah Government Hospital. The Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation police registered a case and arrested the driver of the water lorry, Ragu from Thiravananthapuram, and launched a hunt for the autorickshaw driver with the help of CCTV footage.
