Justice Maheshwari to be Chief Justice of Karnataka HC?

It has proposed for transfer of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, the present Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC to head Karnataka HC.

Bengaluru: The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, has recommended names of new chief justices to ten High Courts, including Karnataka, which has been lying vacant since the retirement of Justice S.K. Mukherjee. The recommendation of SC Collegium, dated January 10, was made public on Thursday. It has proposed for transfer of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, the present Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC to head Karnataka HC. The Collegium pointed out that Karnataka HC chief justice’s post has been lying vacant since October 9, 2017. It recommended that Justice Maheshwari be transferred to here for better administration.

It further adds that the Collegium is making the recommendation despite the fact that in the all-India seniority of HC Judges Justice Dinesh Maheshwari stands below Justice H.G. Ramesh (currently acting Chief Justice of Karnataka HC Court), since the latter on an earlier occasion had chosen to deny himself the Chief Justiceship of High Court.
