Haj embarkation at Karipur; CM Pinarayi Vijayan writes to PM Modi
More than 80 per cent of Haj pilgrims are from the Northern districts of the state.
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting permission for landing and taking off of big aircraft from Calicut International Airport following the completion of the strengthening work of the runway.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister urged that Calicut airport should be retained as the main centre for Haj pilgrims. The embarkation of Haj pilgrims from Kerala and Lakshadweep used to be from Calicut airport till 2015. More than 80 per cent of Haj pilgrims are from the Northern districts of the state.
